Our Purpose

We are a group of dermatologists, quality of life experts, and researchers committed to bringing the patient’s voice back to the clinic visit. One of the best ways to do that is to use patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in clinic as a way to learn (and measure) how much and in what ways skin issues bother patients.

Research experts have dedicated their careers to developing and testing PROs in clinical and epidemiologic research. But very few clinicians are actively trying to use PROs in clinical practice. We want to help clinicians understand the power of PROs at capturing their patient’s voice, understanding how their skin issues are affecting them, and assessing improvements with treatment.

In 2020, we formed the Dermatology PRO Consortium.

Our purpose: to identify, simplify, implement, test, and learn from PROs in routine clinical dermatology practice, all the while exchanging best practices and improving the process. With researchers at multiple institutions, we aim to secure grant funding from government agencies and foundations to study ways to unlock the potential of PROs in dermatology. We want to revolutionize patient care in dermatology by focusing primarily on improving patients’ quality of life.
